The challenge

A fast-growing cake and meal chain was running 14 outlets and a head office as separate companies. Every outlet needed its own books, but supply came from one central kitchen. On top of that, Bangladesh's VAT regime had to be applied correctly at every step: absorbed purchase VAT, Mushak 6.3 receipts, and VDS/TDS withheld when vendor bills were settled. Standard Odoo couldn't express any of this out of the box.

What we built

Bangladesh VAT, VDS & TDS compliance (4,348 lines)
  • Purchase VAT capitalised into inventory cost automatically at goods receipt, before the vendor bill exists
  • Per-product landed-cost allocation
  • VDS/TDS withholding at bill settlement, with per-line rates and automatic journal entries
  • 30+ computed fields on vendor bills
  • Three statutory registers (Bill Settlement, VDS, TDS) on screen, in A4 PDF, pivot and graph
  • NBR tax-report tags, including retro-tagging of historical entries
Inter-company supply & manufacturing (3,432 lines)
  • HQ → outlet prices locked at cost, so there's zero inter-company profit
  • Delivery → receipt sync, including lots and serial numbers
  • Stock-valuation repair, so FIFO never collapses
  • A daily self-healing accounting job (journals, accounts, payment methods)
  • Manufacturing controls: shared BoMs, no negative-stock completion
  • P&L by company and by outlet
Outlet POS (1,132 lines)
  • Payment-reference popup, required for non-cash methods
  • NBR-compliant receipts: Mushak 6.3 header, BIN, 80 mm, whole-taka rounding, BILL PAID/UNPAID footer
  • Credit-customer filter, 17 loyalty and partner promo codes
  • bKash, Nagad, SSL and Foodpanda among 11 auto-provisioned payment methods
Central kitchen manufacturing design

A blueprint for 1,000+ products: 3 work centres (Bakery, Icing, Hot Meal), RM → SFG → FG taxonomy, multi-level BoMs, WIP locations, FIFO cost roll-up and a 4-phase rollout.

Data migration

7 import workbooks: chart of accounts, 15 companies, warehouses, FIFO product categories, POS category tree, sellable and non-sellable catalogues.

Results

  • One database for HQ and 14 outlets, with books per company and P&L by outlet
  • VAT, VDS and TDS calculated by the system, not by Excel
  • Accurate food cost through FIFO valuation from raw material to finished cake
  • Production-hardened: 31 versioned migrations and 27 automated tests, released through dev → staging → main
